How to access mediation services

We’re your first stop if you have a commercial dispute. Our role is to help you find a solution through information, negotiation or mediation rather than litigation.

The Mediation Services team offers mediation, along with negotiation and procedural advice, to assist in the resolution of small business and retail lease disputes.

We’re here to listen, but we can also give you strategic and procedural advice to help you sort out whatever issues are getting in the way.

If problems persist, we can also talk to the other party to hear their perspective. This helps identify what needs to be addressed to allow both parties to get on with their business. We call this our informal mediation service. We can help you identify the key areas of focus and most importantly, we empower you to stand up for yourself.

Where problems are too complex to be dealt with over the phone, we arrange a formal mediation session for everyone to sit down and work through the issues.

Our staff are formally trained to mediate commercial disputes; we don’t take sides.

We also have a panel of independent professional mediators with a wide range of commercial experience. Our aim is to help all parties avoid a court or tribunal decision.

We mediate for issues including:

  • Providing assistance to landlords and tenants of shops and restaurants, industrial or commercial premises

  • Resolving disputes between small businesses, Government agencies and local government

  • Managing disagreements between contractors and subcontractors

  • Franchise disputes

  • Unfair contracts

  • Debt recovery and unpaid invoices.

We provide free support to small businesses in need.
