Small Business Friendly Councils Conference

Conference group photo

Thank you to everyone who came along to our very first Small Business Friendly Councils Conference in Sydney. The event was a smashing success, with representatives from almost 70 NSW Councils and delegates from Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland.

You told us your favourite sessions included Mark McCrindle’s keynote speech on the future economy, Barrie Barton enthusing about life in our cities, Jo Kelly sharing her expertise on placemaking and Dr Kim Houghton talking about regional economies. We witnessed show stopping case studies from Bland Shire and Parkes Councils and we were moved by the heartbreaking stories from the Northern Rivers Floods.

Another highlight was a presentation to Councils for their leadership in making it easier for local businesses to start and grow through their adoption of the award-winning Easy to do Business program. It has been a huge success, with 109 NSW councils now on board reaching 88 per cent of our population.

The Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope was thrilled to be part of the event, praising the Small Business Friendly Councils as a fantastic initiative designed to help local economies thrive.

The Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello and Minister Tudehope presented Councils with their plaques, and Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock kicked off the second day via video.

If you weren’t able to make it to the conference, you can get a flavour for what happened from the presentations, videos and photos.
