December update from the Commission

Santa hat on fence

As we rapidly approach the end of the year many of us are probably thinking, good riddance 2020.

As we rapidly approach the end of the year many of us are probably thinking, good riddance 2020.

The year brought no shortage of challenges: drought, fire, floods and a pandemic that ravaged many communities. Despite these challenges the strength and ingenuity of small business have shone through.

These challenges are far from over, but there are a number of positive signs in respect of the NSW economy. ABS data released this week confirmed a 6.8 per cent rebound in state final demand for the September quarter and we hope the easing of COVID-related restrictions will provide welcome relief for many small businesses across the state. Our latest small business survey results also show that small business confidence is on the rise.

Updates in this issue include a summary of the 2020-21 NSW Budget and the new measures designed to support small business. We also give you a breakdown on the important changes and extensions to the COVID leasing regulations and you can find out about the new cleaning requirements for businesses that have had a positive COVID case on the premises.

As this will be our final newsletter for 2020, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy and festive Christmas and New Year.
