Businesses can claim back government fees and charges up to the maximum amount

Small businesses are encouraged to take advantage of a new $1,500 rebate scheme to help cover the cost of NSW and local government fees and charges.

The Small Business Fees and Charges Rebate is open to small businesses that have a total wages bill below the new 2020-21 $1.2 million payroll tax threshold.

It is available from 1 April 2021 until 30 June 2022, for eligible fees and charges due and paid from 1 March 2021.

Fees and charges that can be claimed back through the scheme include liquor licences, food authority licences, council rates and outdoor seating fees. It also includes up to four hours of mediation provided by the NSW Small Business Commission to help small businesses resolve disputes.

The launch of the rebate scheme coincides with a number of licence waivers coming to an end.
